| The Telecaster Bass (or Tele Bass) from Fender is probably my favourite Fender bass model. In fact, as a dyed-in-the-wool Telecaster player, when I first branched into playing bass I sought out a Tele Bass as my very first bass. The original series - introduced in 1968 and produced until 1971 - was essentially a re-issue of the original Precision Bass, the 1951 model. The Telecaster Bass was, in effect, Fender's first-ever 're-issue'. This is a great-looking and affordable example dating generally from March 1969. The 'Mar 69' stamp is clearly visible on the end of the neck (see the detailed photographs in the 'more pictures' link below), and the serial number of 239567 backs this up. However, the bass has been modified in the past, and then restored to genuine spec, with the body showing evidence of routing towards the bridge for a split P-bass style pickup (now filled), and later potentiometers, a great-sounding Seymour Duncan pickup, tuners, string tree, bridge, single-ply scratchplate, and (obviously!) finish on the body. Pots are quality (genuine Fender) CTS, and both date to the 23rd week of 1993. The pickup is an earlier Seymour Duncan, which I think (please correct me if wrong!) is the equivalent of today's SCPB-1 pickup, with a more vintage sound and not as hot as the Basslines SCPB-2 and -3 pickups. Whatever it is, it sounds great! So this bass is NOT a collector. It's been mucked about with in the past, and is not original now. However, is IS a player! It now looks original again, has the all-important original 1969 body and neck, and plays, sounds and looks GROUSE! And, the truly amazing thing is the weight. Just 3.7kg, or 8 lb and 2.51 oz! . This is a seriously cool bass! Also check out the 1970 Tele Bass we have in stock, and the oh-so-cool original 1969 Tele Bass now on lay-by. There is no case with this bass, but it will come with a gig bag and will be well packed and boxed for its journey to its new owner.
