Fernandes were one of the Japanese companies who made history (and shook up the American guitar industry) with their now-famous 'lawsuit' copies of established American models, mainly Fenders and Gibsons.

Fernandes are possibly more famous for their copies of Gibsons, mainly the Les Paul® model, under the Burny brandname - these vintage Burny guitars are now very, very collectable, and are appreciating rapidly in value as musicians and collectors alike finally realise what fantastic guitars they were (which is exactly why Fender® and Gibson® were rattled, and the 'lawsuit' was initiated by Norlin in the first place).

This vintage Made in Japan guitar dates from that era (and is one of the sought-after L-serial number series with a serial number of L048077 - most Fernandes guitars did not have a serial number). It is an incredibly accurate copy of an early 1960s sunburst Fender® Telecaster® with rosewood fretboard. The pickups from this era are also highly regarded, and this guitar is original in all respects.

The body is 2-piece in stunning light ash, and the maple neck has a rosewood cap fretboard, exactly as Fender® would have made it back in '62. The guitar is obviously a good one, because it has been played a lot. It has some very small minor dents & nicks one would expect from a used guitar but generally it is excellent. There is belt-buckle 'worming' to the back of the guitar, but the finish has not been worn through. The original frets show some wear in the first three positions, but a simple dress would bring them back to perfect, as there is plenty of life left in them. The rosewood board also has a little wear in the first three or four fret positions. The back of the neck has some minor dents, virtually invisible. Check the 'more pictures' link below to see more detailed photographs.

It plays superbly as it is, and you can be assured I will be gigging this vintage Japanese guitar until it sells! Weight is 3.8kg (8.4 pounds)

This guitar was bought new by the previous owner from Troy House of Music in the mid 80's and has had some upgrades performed by the late Stewart Male. These include graphite nut, 6-saddle bridge, and a Seymour Duncan fat sounding neck pick-up. The guitar is in very good condition and hasn't been gigged for nearly 20 years.

It comes complete with a black Tolex plush-lined hard shell case, which may well be the original as it dates from the same era.

The ultimate in Telecaster mojo for tiny fraction of the price of the guitar it replicates perfectly!
