| This vintage Japanese guitar is a Vantage "Spirit" VLP510 model made in the Matsumoku factory in 1981 (serial number is 1110441). It is essentially a 'lawsuit' copy of a Gibson® Les Paul®, with a couple of variations such as a coil tap switch to increase the number of tones available. The body and neck are both made from stunning mahogany, of a grade rarely seen these days. The bound fingerboard is rosewood, and the carved arched body cap is birchwood. The original finish is a deep and quite stunning wine red (also copied from Gibson®!), which really sets this MIJ guitar off well. Scale length is the Gibson-standard 24 3/4", the original alnico-magnet humbuckers have a coil-tap switch (located near the rotary controls). The guitar is in extremely good condition, with only some chipping to the rear edges and some very minor marks on the back of the neck and the headstock prfeventing it from being termed mint. The original scratchplate and pickup surrounds have yellowed beautifully over the past 25 years, as has the binding to the body and the neck. All fittings and hardware are original. The pickup selector switch has at some stage lost its plastic tip - an easily-sourced item. This guitar displays almost no playing wear - the original frets show the tiniest bit of wear, and have never been dressed. In effect, it's a new vintage guitar! Neck is gunbarrel straight and plays like butter, just like a Les Paul® should. There is no case with this guitar, but I will ship it with a gig bag.
